At Lavender Psychology, a range of therapeutic approaches are offered to support individuals in navigating life’s challenges and fostering personal growth. As a registered Clinical Psychologist with AHPRA, evidence-based therapies are provided, tailored to unique needs. Whether seeking relief from past trauma, working to improve mental well-being, or exploring personal identity, therapies are grounded in best practices to ensure effective support. A compassionate, non-judgmental space is created where individuals can be their authentic selves while gaining the tools and insights needed for a fulfilling life.
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a transformative therapy that helps individuals heal from the emotional wounds of distressing memories and trauma. By gently guiding the brain’s natural ability to process these experiences, EMDR uses bilateral stimulation to reduce the weight of painful emotions and unhelpful beliefs, creating space for growth, resilience, and lasting relief.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) empowers individuals to build a meaningful life by fostering acceptance of difficult thoughts and feelings while taking purposeful action toward their values. Through mindfulness and self-compassion, ACT helps clients develop the flexibility to face challenges with clarity and strength, guiding them toward a more fulfilling and authentic life.
Imagery Rescripting is a powerful therapeutic approach that transforms the emotional impact of painful memories. By revisiting and reimagining these experiences in a safe and supported environment, clients can rewrite their inner narrative, reducing emotional distress and building a renewed sense of peace and empowerment.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) offers practical tools for navigating intense emotions, building healthy relationships, and cultivating balance in daily life. With its focus on mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness, DBT provides a compassionate path to living with greater stability, confidence, and connection.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) helps individuals uncover and reframe unhelpful thought patterns, fostering healthier emotional responses and behavior. By providing practical, evidence-based strategies, CBT supports clients in breaking free from negative cycles, empowering them to face challenges with resilience and optimism.
Mindfulness is the practice of cultivating present-moment awareness with curiosity and compassion. By gently shifting focus away from distractions and judgments, mindfulness fosters emotional balance, reduces stress, and enhances a deeper connection to oneself and the world. It’s a grounding tool that empowers individuals to approach life’s challenges with greater clarity and calm.

Yes, we accept private health insurance for psychological services. Many private health insurance providers in Australia offer rebates for sessions with registered psychologists under their "Extras" cover. The rebate amount depends on your specific health fund and level of coverage. To determine your eligibility and the potential rebate, we recommend checking with your insurer.
We understand that life can get in the way of scheduled appointments. We ask that you provide us with at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Otherwise, you may be charged a cancellation fee of 50% the session fee.
Our session fee is $270 for 50-minutes. If you have any questions about rebates or payment options, such as claiming through Medicare with a Mental Health Treatment Plan, please feel free to contact us.
Yes, we offer telehealth services for clients who prefer to access therapy remotely. Telehealth allows you to attend sessions via secure video conferencing from the comfort of your own home or another private location. It’s a convenient option for those who may have difficulty attending in-person sessions due to distance, mobility, or other circumstances. If you’re interested in telehealth, feel free to contact us to discuss whether it’s a suitable option for your needs. Telehealth sessions are eligible for Medicare rebates when you have a valid referral and a Mental Health Treatment Plan.
During your first session at Lavender Psychology, you can expect an initial assessment where we’ll take time to understand your concerns, goals, and any relevant background information. This helps us tailor the therapy to suit your specific needs. We’ll discuss any questions you may have about the process, confidentiality, and what to expect from therapy. We may also begin discussing any immediate challenges you're facing, as well as explore suitable therapeutic approaches.
It’s a safe, non-judgmental space, so feel free to share as much or as little as you're comfortable with. You’ll leave with a better understanding of the therapy process and how we can work together to help you reach your goals. If you have any concerns or need clarification before the session, don't hesitate to contact us.
Ensuring confidentiality and data security is a top priority. We use Halaxy, a secure and trusted practice management system, to store and manage all client information, including session notes and personal details. Halaxy complies with strict Australian privacy standards and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988. Additionally, all client communications and session materials are stored securely, and access is restricted to authorized personnel only. We ensure that any electronic communication, including emails and telehealth sessions, is encrypted to protect your privacy. We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality, and if you ever have any questions about how your information is handled, please feel free to contact us.
The length of therapy depends on a variety of factors, including the nature of the issues you're working on, your personal goals, and the progress you make. Therapy is a highly individualised process, and some clients may find that they reach their goals in a shorter time, while others may benefit from longer-term support. In general, therapy is an ongoing process that is reviewed regularly to ensure it continues to meet your needs. You and your therapist will collaborate to determine the appropriate duration and frequency based on your unique situation.
We are committed to supporting our clients through their mental health journeys. However, it's important to note that we are not an emergency or crisis service. If you are experiencing an urgent crisis or need immediate assistance, we recommend reaching out to Lifeline (13 11 14), Beyond Blue (1300 22 4636), or visiting your nearest emergency department or contacting emergency on 000.
If you're experiencing a mental health crisis outside of regular sessions, we encourage you to seek support from these services, as they are equipped to provide immediate care. For ongoing concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us to discuss your situation, and we will do our best to offer support within our capacity.
We prioritise transparency and respect for your privacy when it comes to record-keeping and consent. All client records are stored securely in line with Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) and the Privacy Act 1988, ensuring confidentiality and data security. We use Halaxy, a trusted practice management system, to manage client information safely and securely.
At the beginning of therapy, we will discuss and obtain your informed consent, ensuring you fully understand how your personal information will be handled and stored. You will be informed about the types of records we maintain, such as session notes and treatment plans, and your rights regarding access to these records. We will also discuss your rights to withdraw consent at any time, with the understanding that this may impact your ongoing treatment.
If you have any questions or concerns about your records or consent, we encourage you to discuss them with us at any point during your therapy. Your comfort and trust in this process are of utmost importance.
We do not provide psychological reports or letters for legal or medico-legal purposes. Our focus is on providing therapeutic support to help clients improve their mental health and well-being. If you require a report for legal, employment, or insurance purposes, we recommend seeking assistance from a psychologist or other professional who specialises in such documentation.
To get the most out of your first session, it can be helpful to think about what brought you to therapy and what goals you'd like to work on. You may also want to gather any relevant medical or psychological history that might be helpful for your therapist to know. However, there's no need to feel overwhelmed—your therapist will guide you through the process and help you feel comfortable.
We currently specialise in individual therapy and do not offer therapy for couples or families at this time. Our focus is on providing personalised support for individuals, particularly those navigating mental health challenges or seeking personal growth. If you’re looking for therapy specifically for couples or families, we can provide recommendations for trusted professionals who specialise in those areas. Feel free to contact us if you'd like assistance in finding a suitable referral.
We understand that starting therapy or seeking an assessment can bring up lots of questions. Whether you're unsure about the process, want to know more about how we work, or just need clarification on anything, we're here to help! Feel free to reach out, and we’ll be happy to provide the information and support you need to feel confident and comfortable moving forward.
