AuDHD Assessments

At Lavender Psychology, we acknowledge AuDHD, the co-occurrence of Autism and ADHD, as a valid and often under-recognised neurotype. We take a neuro-affirming and inclusive approach to understanding the dynamic interplay of traits across both profiles, recognising the ways they can overlap, mask, or amplify one another. Our assessment process is designed to be collaborative, thoughtful, and affirming. Whether you’re seeking greater clarity for yourself or your child, we aim to provide meaningful insights that honour your lived experience while supporting self-understanding, advocacy, and access to appropriate supports.

Below is an outline of the steps involved in our AuDHD assessments.

What is the Process?

1. Pre-Assessment

2. Initial Interview

2. Initial Interview

Standardised questionnaires are provided to the client and, where appropriate, to individuals such as parents, partners, or other key supports. These tools gather valuable insights into areas like attention, impulsivity, executive functioning, and social–emotional functioning. This helps identify specific areas of concern and patterns across contexts.

2. Initial Interview

2. Initial Interview

2. Initial Interview

A structured clinical interview explores developmental history, current functioning, and traits across both ADHD and autism domains, such as attention, executive functioning, sensory processing, communication, and social interaction. We also consider masking, lived experience, and overlap between traits to build a clear and affirming neurodivergent profile.

3. WAIS-IV/WISC-V

2. Initial Interview

3. WAIS-IV/WISC-V

The WAIS-IV (for adults) or WISC-V (for adolescents) is administered to assess intellectual functioning, including areas such as verbal comprehension, working memory, and processing speed. These results provide context for understanding cognitive strengths and differences.

4. MIGDAS-2

6. Feedback Session

3. WAIS-IV/WISC-V

The MIGDAS-2 (The Monteiro Interview Guidelines for Diagnosing the Autism Spectrum) is used to explore sensory interests, social connections, and communication styles through naturalistic observation and interviews

5. Report Writing

6. Feedback Session

6. Feedback Session

A detailed, client-centered report is prepared, summarising assessment results, interpretations, and neuro-affirming recommendations for support, interventions, or accommodations tailored to the client's unique needs.

6. Feedback Session

6. Feedback Session

6. Feedback Session

A collaborative session where findings are explained in a clear and supportive manner, with opportunities for the client (and family, if appropriate) to ask questions, discuss implications, and plan next steps.

Frequently Asked Questions

AuDHD assessments explore the co-occurrence of ADHD and Autism to better understand how traits from both neurotypes interact, overlap, or mask one another. The goal is to build a comprehensive, affirming picture of strengths and challenges that can guide appropriate supports, accommodations, and self-understanding.

Yes, we are able to conduct combined AuDHD assessments for individuals aged 12 and older. This integrated approach uses structured tools and clinical interviews to assess traits across both neurotypes, offering a cohesive and efficient way to understand your unique profile. For more information, please contact us.

Traits associated with ADHD and Autism can appear early in life, but dual presentations are often recognised later, especially if masking or compensation has occurred. At Lavender Psychology, we offer AuDHD assessments for individuals aged 12 and older, using a developmentally-informed and neuro-affirming approach.

The process includes clinical interviews, questionnaires, and standardised tools to assess attention, communication, sensory processing, executive functioning, and social engagement. Input from significant others (e.g., parents, partners, or teachers) may also be included to support a thorough and contextualised understanding.

A formal diagnosis can support access to therapeutic interventions, academic accommodations, and workplace adjustments. It can also provide clarity and validation, helping individuals and their families better understand their experiences and advocate for their needs.

Costs vary depending on the complexity of the assessment. At Lavender Psychology, we offer tailored AuDHD assessments for individuals aged 12 and older. Please contact us directly for a personalised quote based on your needs and goals.

AuDHD assessments typically involve multiple steps completed across several appointments, including interviews, questionnaires, and standardised testing. This time allows for a thoughtful, accurate evaluation and the development of a detailed written report. If you’d like a more specific timeframe, please reach out.

You do not need a referral to access an AuDHD assessment at Lavender Psychology. However, if you are under 25, you may be eligible for Medicare rebates through the Complex Neurodevelopmental Disorders scheme, which requires a referral from a paediatrician or psychiatrist. This covers up to four assessment sessions. Please contact us for assistance with the referral process and funding options.

Our assessments are designed to explore a wide range of neurodivergent experiences. If diagnostic criteria for both conditions are not met, we will still provide a comprehensive summary of findings along with tailored recommendations to support your needs. Our focus is on understanding, not just diagnosis.
