Therapeutic Approaches

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a transformative therapy that helps individuals heal from the emotional wounds of distressing memories and trauma. By gently guiding the brain’s natural ability to process these experiences, EMDR uses bilateral stimulation to reduce the weight of painful emotions and unhelpful beliefs, creating space for growth, resilience, and lasting relief.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) empowers individuals to build a meaningful life by fostering acceptance of difficult thoughts and feelings while taking purposeful action toward their values. Through mindfulness and self-compassion, ACT helps clients develop the flexibility to face challenges with clarity and strength, guiding them toward a more fulfilling and authentic life.

Imagery Rescripting is a powerful therapeutic approach that transforms the emotional impact of painful memories. By revisiting and reimagining these experiences in a safe and supported environment, clients can rewrite their inner narrative, reducing emotional distress and building a renewed sense of peace and empowerment.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) offers practical tools for navigating intense emotions, building healthy relationships, and cultivating balance in daily life. With its focus on mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness, DBT provides a compassionate path to living with greater stability, confidence, and connection.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) helps individuals uncover and reframe unhelpful thought patterns, fostering healthier emotional responses and behaviour. By providing practical, evidence-based strategies, CBT supports clients in breaking free from negative cycles, empowering them to face challenges with resilience and optimism.

Mindfulness is the practice of cultivating present-moment awareness with curiosity and compassion. By gently shifting focus away from distractions and judgments, mindfulness fosters emotional balance, reduces stress, and enhances a deeper connection to oneself and the world. It’s a grounding tool that empowers individuals to approach life’s challenges with greater clarity and calm.

At Lavender Psychology, we provide a range of psychological services tailored to meet the needs of individuals aged 16 and older. We strive to create a warm, supportive environment where clients feel safe to explore their concerns and work toward their goals. Yes, we offer telehealth services for clients who prefer to access therapy remotely. Telehealth allows you to attend sessions via secure video conferencing from the comfort of your own home or another private location. It’s a convenient option for those who may have difficulty attending in-person sessions due to distance, mobility, or other circumstances. If you’re interested in telehealth, feel free to contact us to discuss whether it’s a suitable option for your needs. Telehealth sessions are eligible for Medicare rebates when you have a valid referral and a Mental Health Treatment Plan.

Yes, we accept clients who wish to claim rebates through Medicare. If you have a valid referral and a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) from your GP, psychiatrist, or pediatrician, you may be eligible for Medicare rebates for up to 10 therapy sessions per calendar year under the Better Access Initiative. The current rebate for sessions with a clinical psychologist is $141.85.

If you’re unsure about your eligibility or how to access a referral, we’d be happy to guide you through the process. Feel free to contact us here.

Yes, we accept private health insurance for psychological services. Many private health insurance providers in Australia offer rebates for sessions with registered psychologists under their "Extras" cover. The rebate amount depends on your specific health fund and level of coverage. To determine your eligibility and the potential rebate, we recommend checking with your insurer. Please note that private health claims cannot be used in conjunction with the Medicare rebate.

Our session fee is $270 for 50-minutes. If you have any questions about rebates or payment options, such as claiming through Medicare with a Mental Health Treatment Plan, please feel free to contact us.

Yes. Sessions scheduled after 5:00pm incur a 10% after-hours fee. This reflects the extended availability and time commitment required outside standard business hours. The fee will be clearly listed in your invoice, and you’re welcome to request daytime appointments if you'd prefer to avoid this surcharge. We’ll always do our best to accommodate your scheduling needs wherever possible.

No, Telehealth sessions offered outside of regular clinic days do not incur an extra fee, unless the appointment is scheduled after 5:00pm, in which case a 10% after-hours fee applies. This helps ensure clinician availability remains sustainable while still offering flexible access to care.

To get the most out of your first session, it can be helpful to think about what brought you to therapy and what goals you'd like to work on. You may also want to gather any relevant medical or psychological history that might be helpful for your therapist to know. However, there's no need to feel overwhelmed and your therapist will guide you through the process and help you feel comfortable.

During your first session at Lavender Psychology, you can expect an initial assessment where we’ll take time to understand your concerns, goals, and any relevant background information. This helps us tailor the therapy to suit your specific needs. We’ll discuss any questions you may have about the process, confidentiality, and what to expect from therapy. We may also begin discussing any immediate challenges you're facing, as well as explore suitable therapeutic approaches.

It’s a safe, non-judgmental space, so feel free to share as much or as little as you're comfortable with. You’ll leave with a better understanding of the therapy process and how we can work together to help you reach your goals. If you have any concerns or need clarification before the session, don't hesitate to contact us.

The length of therapy depends on a variety of factors, including the nature of the concerns you're working on, your personal goals, and the progress you make. Therapy is a highly individualised process, and some clients may find that they reach their goals in a shorter time, while others may benefit from longer-term support. In general, therapy is an ongoing process that is reviewed regularly to ensure it continues to meet your needs. You and your therapist will collaborate to determine the appropriate duration and frequency based on your unique situation.

We understand that life can get in the way of scheduled appointments. We ask that you provide us with at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Otherwise, you may be charged a cancellation fee of the full session fee.

Protecting your privacy and maintaining confidentiality is a core commitment at Lavender Psychology. We use secure, trusted systems to manage client information and conduct therapy in line with Australian privacy legislation and professional ethical standards.

Client records, including session notes and personal information, are securely stored using Halaxy, a practice management platform that complies with Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988. Halaxy uses secure encryption and access controls to ensure that your information remains confidential and accessible only to authorised personnel.

For telehealth appointments, we use Zoom, which provides encrypted audio and video to protect the privacy of your sessions. While Zoom is not end-to-end encrypted by default, we implement additional security features such as waiting rooms, meeting passwords, and locked sessions to safeguard access. These steps align with ethical guidance provided by the Australian Psychological Society (APS) for the responsible use of videoconferencing in therapy.

Standard email communication is used only for administrative purposes and does not include sensitive clinical information unless specifically arranged. If you require a more secure method for sharing information, we’re happy to explore alternative options.

We also use email for administrative purposes, including appointment confirmations and general communication. While emails may contain some sensitive information, such as your name and appointment details, we take care to minimise the inclusion of more confidential content wherever possible.

If you have any questions or concerns about privacy or how your information is handled, please don't hesitate to contact us.

We prioritise transparency and respect for your privacy when it comes to record-keeping and consent. All client records are stored securely in line with Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) and the Privacy Act 1988, ensuring confidentiality and data security. We use Halaxy, a trusted practice management system, to manage client information safely and securely.

At the beginning of therapy, we will discuss and obtain your informed consent, ensuring you fully understand how your personal information will be handled and stored. You will be informed about the types of records we maintain, such as session notes and treatment plans, and your rights regarding access to these records. We will also discuss your rights to withdraw consent at any time, with the understanding that this may impact your ongoing treatment.

If you have any questions or concerns about your records or consent, we encourage you to discuss them with us at any point during your therapy. Your comfort and trust in this process are of utmost importance.

NovoNote is a secure, AI-powered tool used at Lavender Psychology to help create accurate and efficient clinical notes. It works by generating a draft summary of your session, allowing your clinician to stay fully present with you rather than taking extensive notes during the appointment. No audio is ever saved, and the draft summary is stored securely on Australian servers. Your clinician carefully reviews and edits the draft before it becomes part of your file,so your notes are always human-reviewed, not AI-written. NovoNote does not share your information with third parties, nor is your data used to train AI models.

You are not required to consent to NovoNote. Participation is entirely optional, and this will not impact your access to care or the quality of support you receive at Lavender Psychology. For more information on NovoNote, visit their page on the NovoPsych website.

If you're experiencing a mental health crisis or feel unsafe, please contact a 24/7 support service such as Lifeline (13 11 14), Beyond Blue (1300 22 4636), or call 000 in an emergency. For urgent mental health support outside of session times, these services are best equipped to provide immediate care.

We currently specialise in individual therapy and do not offer therapy for couples or families at this time. Our focus is on providing personalised support for individuals, particularly those navigating mental health challenges or seeking personal growth. If you’re looking for therapy specifically for couples or families, we can provide recommendations for trusted professionals who specialise in those areas. Feel free to contact us if you'd like assistance in finding a suitable referral.

We do not provide psychological reports or letters for legal or medico-legal purposes. Our focus is on providing therapeutic support to help clients improve their mental health and well-being. If you require a report for legal, employment, or insurance purposes, we recommend seeking assistance from a psychologist or other professional who specialises in such documentation.
